SUMMARY:Hip Hop Chair and Line Dance for Seniors!
DESCRIPTION:2025 South Hadley Cultural Council Grant Recipient. Elders do a complete chair\, dance\, warm-up and hip hop class that begins and ends in the chairs. We travel through time on the “Soul Train” and chair dance to clean cut hip hop and R & B songs. We use creative props such as smiley faces and the African maracas to help make our soul train journey come to life. Senior participants will leave feeling more limber.\n\n\nAbout the Instructor: \nRondae Drafts is the former Director of a hip hop dance company in Massachusetts. Professor Drafts has also instructed hip hop dance at MIT where one of the students was wheelchair bound. This was one of the inspirations for this class. The current Executive Director of MUSIC Dance.edu\, Rondae is a Ph.D.abd researching hip hop's impact on contemporary music. She is a Pittsburgh\, Pennsylvania native\, that graduated from The Pennsylvania State University with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Speech Communication\, she later moved o Massachusetts and received a Masters Degree in Education from Cambridge College.

SUMMARY:Deluxe Sock Puppets with Homeslice Puppetry
DESCRIPTION:Free Deluxe Sock Puppet workshop with Homeslice Puppetry (Eric Weiss) for adults. The workshop will be at the Gaylord Memorial Library on Thursday February 27th from 5:30pm -7:30pm. Please pre-register for the free workshop by phone @: 413.538.5047 or on their website @:https://shadleylib.libcal.com/event/13409021 \nThis class begins with an introduction to puppetry and creating a puppet character. Students will learn to build a mouth plate and use this plate as well as some foam for a "skull\,” they will give their sock puppets a wonderful shape and much greater range of motion and movement than an average sock puppet.

DESCRIPTION:The Mount Holyoke College Music Department presents the world premiere of Chickasaw composer Jerod Tate’s Loksi’ Shaali’ (Shell Shaker)\, a groundbreaking opera about the journey of the Chickasaw-Choctaw migration. The story follows the journey of a Chickasaw girl named Loksi’ (Turtle)\, transforming from a troubled girl into a confident young woman and the significance of embracing identity\, honoring sacred traditions\, and how simple acts of kindness can transform the world. \nWorkshopped right here on the Mount Holyoke College campus with a major grant from the Mellon Foundation and the Five College Native American and Indigenous Studies Program\, Jerod Impichchaachaaha’ Tate’s groundbreaking opera will be the first opera ever to be sung completely in a Native American language. \nJoin Mount Holyoke College’s Symphony Orchestra and Glee Club in this semi-staged production of Tate’s new work that will captivate the audience\, immersing you in the rich cultural heritage of the Chickasaw Tribe. \n\nCristina María Castro Loksi’\nCharles Calotta Hiloha and Loksi’ Sipokni’\nKirsten C.
