Tara Murphy of the Rooted Essence Dance Studio will present a beginning West African Dance and Drumming program that will help people to learn about the basic style of West African dances from Mali\, Guinea and Senegal\, West Africa. The class emphasizes community\, self-expression and the joy of movement. Drumming is an activity that stimulates the magic and fun within people. Not only is it a proven team builder\, but many studies show how it reduces stress\, anxiety and depression. In addition\, drumming together sparks creativity and vision -- the rhythms are a powerful way for people to tap into their receptivity to new ideas. Drumming naturally uplifts people's hearts and brings people together in beautiful ways\, in a feeling of unity. \n

DESCRIPTION:Precious Blood Church Fire of 1875 presentation by Robert Comeau\, in the Community Room at the South Hadley Public Library.  It will be about the May 27 1875 fire at the Precious Blood Church in Holyoke Massachusetts.  55 of the 70 people that died due to the fire are buried at the Precious Blood Cemetery of South Hadley.  I will discuss the fire\, the victims\, and the burials.  I have been able to find the vast majority of the birth and marriage documents of the victims.  I have also been able to find the burial records of the 15 people that were not buried in South Hadley.

SUMMARY:Children's Music Program With Michelle Kostek
DESCRIPTION:Location: Library Community Room \nMichelle Kostek has been an educator in South Hadley for the past 14 years\, working with preschoolers\, students\, young adults and everything in between! She loves sharing folk songs with all ages\, but especially children’s music groups\, as she encourages them to sing along\, move to the music and enjoy the stories that have been passed down. Michelle studied songwriting and vocal performance at Berklee College of Music before spending several years immersed in Nashville’s songwriter scene. She made her way back to Massachusetts in 2009 and has been teaching and performing ever since. She currently works with multilingual students at Mosier Elementary\, and loves using music in her teaching whenever possible. Michelle also performs at local venues and events as a part of the indie-folk duo The New Domestics. \n  \nClass Description: \nAn interactive music performance for young children and their families. Inspired by the folk music styles of Elizabeth Mitchell and Ella Jenkins\, children will have an opportunity to listen\, sing-along\, explore instruments\, and move to the music. Recommended for children ages 8 and under (though all are welcome!).

Our team of conservationists believe that people want to save the things they love\, have interacted with\, and truly understand. We are a veteran owned and operated family business. Our programs offer a unique and incredible wildlife experience. SUMMARY:Local History Walking Tour with Leo Labonte
DESCRIPTION:The walk will start at the library\, proceed down Canal Street\, turn up Maple to Taylor\, then to North Main. From there we cross over to Lathrop to Crescent and back to North Main. We continue down North Main to the Firehouse Museum for a water break. Then back up to the library to the end. During the 1.2 mile walk Leo Labonte will point out historical facts for 42 locations. \n  \nLeo Paul Labonte \nLeo Labonte is a local historian and the administrator of the South Hadley/Granby Historical Tidbits Group on Facebook and Co-Admin of “You know you are from South Hadley If”. He is the co-Author of the Historic District Study Committee Report. A graduate of South Hadley High School and Vietnam Veteran. Leo was involved in high tech\, engineering\, sales and consulting for more than twenty years\, before completing another twenty years in the retail environment. He has been researching Native Americans in South Hadley\, dinosaurs\, and 300 years of local town history since he was in elementary school.
